Northwest Ohio Credit Unions Sponsor Event Tuesday, October 21, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
at The University of Toledo Student Union
TOLEDO, Ohio – One of the most difficult lessons for a high school graduate entering the “real world” is learning to handle personal finances. Northwest Ohio Credit Unions and The University of Toledo College of Business Administration are joining together to help set young people on the right financial path with a life-sized interactive game full of life lessons through “Finances 101: Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk.”
More than 700 high school students from 14 Northwest Ohio schools* (19 classes) are expected to participate in the event taking place on Tuesday, October 21, at The University of Toledo Student Union, 3rd Floor Auditorium, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Students will walk through the game of “LIFE” created by local credit unions with generous support from The University of Toledo.
Their “LIFE” experience will include:
- Salary-based jobs
- The opportunity to have children, purchase a home and car, acquire insurance and pay utilities
- Some unexpected and costly surprises along the way such as a car accident or childcare expenses
- Pleasant surprises such as winning the lottery
By completing this session students will learn about a number of things including how buying decisions affect earnings, what it costs to run a household, and how to prevent spending beyond their means.
The Northwest Chapter of the Ohio Credit Union League is a local trade association representing 37 local credit unions. Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives owned and democratically controlled by their members. Northwest Ohio credit unions provide savings, loans and other consumer financial services to their nearly 200,000 members.
